Project Description
Small Stalls, Big Waves
Drifting along the streets, the small stalls use freedom as their lighthouse, bravely surging forward on an endless path.
Tainan, as the earliest developed city in Taiwan’s history with nearly 400 years of history as an ancient capital, has become the origin and starting point of countless captivating stories, unique delicacies, and cultural and historical features of Taiwan.
Temples played a crucial role as a spiritual support for early immigrants facing harsh environments. Worshippers congregating at temples turned these locations into bustling areas. Vendors gathered there to sell daily necessities, and over time, with the growth of the population, these vendors settled down, forming shops, streets, neighborhoods, and eventually towns. This evolution laid the foundation for the vibrant city we see today.
Originating as a small street vendor, Du Hsiao Yueh has in recent years been relentless in its efforts to promote culinary culture and support innovative art and cultural creations. This event, organized and executed by the creative integration team at Ground Zero Studio, leverages the connection between Du Hsiao Yueh and the local history, geography, humanities, and arts to plan the “2018 Tainan Little Rose Mobile Art Festival.”
This festival not only seeks to reconnect with Du Hsiao Yueh’s humble beginnings as a street vendor but also aims to redefine the significance and uniqueness of “food truck culture” in Taiwan through the country’s first mobile art festival.
Event Content
Three Core Concepts—1. Small Stalls, Big Waves, 2. Contemporary Temple Courtyard, 3.Bridging the Gap Between People
This event involves the recruitment and investigation of well-known and unique food truck operators, bands, and performing artists from various regions. Together, they will create a distinctive and culturally significant mobile art festival, showcasing a bustling temple courtyard market that belongs to the contemporary urban populace.
The festival site planning incorporates the distinct characteristics of the 321 Alley, integrating ecological curation concepts. The environment, featuring large banyan trees, Japanese-style wooden houses, brick walls, and parking areas, will be combined with art trucks and environmental theater. This setup will recreate the bustling temple courtyard of urban Taiwan following the end of Japanese rule in 1945.
Under the banyan trees, lively conversational spaces will be created, nostalgic lighting will spill over the old walls, and the aroma of food from the small stalls will fill the air. These everyday yet dreamlike scenes will encapsulate the unique cultural charm and historical context of Taiwan.
Art Truck Market
The 2018 Tainan Little Rose Season—”Small Stalls, Big Waves,” Taiwan’s first mobile art festival, widely invites high-quality and diverse food truck brands from all over the island to create an unprecedented market experience.
Let’s come together at the end of this summer for a passionate encounter with the most distinctive and spirited food truck artists.
Immersive Theater
In the past, during an era without televisions, computers, or mobile phones, people had to visit temple courtyards to enjoy a dramatic performance. The most popular vendors would often gather at the temple entrance, accompanying everyone through delightful and leisurely times.
In that simple time, the distance between people could shrink so much just by gathering at a small temple courtyard. The 2018 Tainan Little Rose Season brings this heartwarming experience back into the 321 Art Alley Settlement.
RPG Puzzle-Solving Game
Every dramatic scene and detailed setting staged in the alleys could tell part of the storyline and provide vital clues. Among the participants, those who can piece together the connections, uncovering a poignant story born out of post-war changes, and solving the mysteries and emotional dilemmas, will access a special ending experience and receive rewards.

Design Applications
Ticket Design
69 years ago, forty thousand old Taiwan dollars could only be exchanged for one new Taiwan dollar.
When you purchase an event ticket, you’ll receive a “two million Taiwan dollars bill.” Time travelers can use this bill to redeem goods worth fifty new Taiwan dollars, personally experiencing the days when “forty thousand for one” and “money less valuable than rice” were part of daily life. You’ll be immersed once again in a period of skyrocketing prices and turbulent times in Taiwanese society!
